Rhea Ripley won women’s Royal Rumble match and earned the right to challenge for a women’s championship of her choosing at WrestleMania 39. Rhea Ripley opted to challenge Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship in a rematch from their encounter at WrestleMania 36. This marked the first-ever women’s WrestleMania rematch to occur at WrestleMania, and the match was scheduled to take place on Night 1 of the event.
At WrestleMania 39 Night 1, Rhea Ripley defeated Charlotte Flair via pinfall and became the new Smackdown Women’s Champion in a hard hitting battle. At the closing moments of the match, Rhea ipley side-steps the Spear and Flair puts on the brakes to avoid hitting the referee. Ripley headbutts Flair and then nails Riptide for a close 2 count. Ripley sends Flair face-first into the top of the ring post and her body goes limp. Ripley climbs up for a super Riptide for the pin to win the title.
After the match, Ripley stands tall and raises the title in the air as the pyro explodes. Charlotte Flair looks on and mouths to Rhea Ripley that she deserved it.
