The inaugural IPL All-Star match, which was proposed to be held three days prior to the start of IPL 2020, has been postponed to the end of the tournament, as confirmed by Brijesh Patel – the IPL GC chairman – to Cricbuzz.
Dismissing reports that the one-off exhibition match has been called off, Patel said, “We are not calling it off, it has just been postponed to the end of the tournament. We wanted to see how the players are performing, and on the basis of that, form the teams for the All-Star match.”
However, as per reports from Mumbai Mirror, the IPL franchises held reservation against the scheduled All-Star game as they didn’t want to risk losing their star players to injury, and also that the decision was taken during the IPL Governing Council on January 28 meeting without consulting the franchises.
The All-Stars game was proposed by the BCCI to be a charity event, to be played annually.
