WWE BACKLASH 2020 RESULTS

The much-touted ‘Greatest Wrestling Match of All-Time’ will take place tonight between Edge and Randy Orton. Ridicoulous as the moniker may be, for any match with any competitors, this should be an awesome affair between two of the all-time greats.
The WWE Championship will be contested tonight between Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley. Since teaming with MVP, Lashley has seen his star skyrocket and he clashes with McIntyre tonight. Can McIntyre retain? Or will Lashley shock the world and make the Champ pass out?
Of course, the Universal Championship will also be contested in a handicap match, with Braun Strowman defending against The Miz and John Morrison, Apollo Crews Vs. Andrade for the United States Championship, Asuka Vs. Nia Jax for the RAW Women’s Championship, and all three Tag Team Championships will be defended.
KICK-OFF SHOW
The Backlash 2020 Kick-Off Show is hosted by Scott Stanford and Peter Rosenberg. The duo run down tonight’s Backlash card.
Renee Young, JBL, and Booker T join the show via video, and weigh-in on Asuka Vs. Nia Jax. JBL says Nia has something to prove since being given the title, but Booker says the time is right for Jax to dominate the division.
Charly Caruso interviews Christian and Ric Flair about the main event tonight. Flair says Orton lost the Last Man Standing match but tonight isn’t like that, it’s not barbaric. He says Orton will retain his title as the greatest in-ring performer in WWE history. Christian says Edge didn’t take nine years off, he was working to stay in shape and get back. He says Orton was born in the business but he’s always wanted to take the path of least resistance. Orton has never had to work for anything, while Edge has had to scrape for everything. It’s passion and grit vs. natural ability.
We see Miz and Morrison’s new music video for ‘Hey, Hey, Hey’.
Renee, Booker, and JBL discuss Edge Vs. Orton and agree they can live up to the hype. JBL says Shawn Michaels came back better than ever and Edge could do the same. But both men think Orton will win.
UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP
(C) APOLLO CREWS VS. ANDRADE W/ZELINA VEGA & ANGEL GARZA
Kevin Owens comes down wearing a tie before the match begins. Andrade takes a headlock but the action spills outside and Apollo back drops him on the steel ramp. Apollo hits a moonsault from the apron, then gets Andrade back inside.
Apollo hits a stalling suplex for a quick two-count. Andrade hits a drop-toe-hold into the bottom turnbuckle, followed by running knees for a two-count. Andrade gets Apollo in the tree of woe but misses a double stomp. Crews catches him with an overhead belly-to-belly into the buckles.
Crews hits a spinning splash in the corner and a slam for a two-count. They fight on the apron and Andrade hits a float-over DDT for a near-fall. Andrade hits a military press, followed by moonsault and shooting star press. He goes for the cover but Garza gets on the apron. Owens pulls him down and hits a Stunner, followed by a toss powerbomb from Crews for the win
WINNER: APOLLO CREWS

Rosenberg and Stanford discuss Hardy Vs. Sheamus, the Women’s Tag Titles match, and McIntyre Vs. Lashley to close out the Kick-Off Show.

WWE WOMEN’S TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS

(C) SASHA BANKS & BAYLEY VS. THE IICONICS VS. ALEXA BLISS & NIKKI CROSS
The match gets underway with Cross, Bayley, and Kay. The two heels double-team the Scot, but Bayley turns on Kay and Banks tags in. Bliss tags in and all six women have a staredown.
Banks hits Royce with a springboard arm-drag, then attempts a roll-up but Bliss gets involved. Bliss attacks both and they trade pin attempts. All six women get into a brawl until we’re left with the legal three again. Cross tags in following slaps from Bliss, but Royce catches her with a kick for a two-count.
Banks makes the tag and helps Bayley drop Kay with a knee. Bliss takes Banks, Bayley, and Royce down with Thesz Presses. She brawls with Banks on the apron but Royce hits both with a flying crossbody through the ropes onto the other women on the floor.
The IIconics team to hit their finish on Banks, but Cross and Bliss attack them. Bliss hits Twisted Bliss on Royce, but Banks runs in and rolls her up to steal the victory!
WINNERS: SASHA BANKS & BAYLEY
We see a video of Braun Strowman arriving at the arena earlier today, driving his fixed Grand National. The same car that Miz and Morrison smashed the windows of on Friday night.
A trailer airs for WWE Extreme Rules, which will take place on Sunday July 19th.
SHEAMUS VS. JEFF HARDY
The bell rings and Sheamus overpowers Jeff and rams him into the corner. Sheamus lands some forearms to the back but Jeff fires back with some right hands. Sheamus pops out of the corner with an axe handle but gets thrown to the apron and dropkicked to the floor.
Hardy runs off the steps and tackles Sheamus to the floor. Hardy decides against using the steel steps and gets back inside, but Sheamus tackles him and drills him with elbows. Sheamus throws Jeff into the ring post leg’s first, then hits a release spinning sidewalk slam. The referee checks on Jeff as Sheamus calls the “fans” enablers.
Two Irish curse backbreakers earn Sheamus a two-count. The Irishman takes a headlock and, as Hardy starts to rally, he hits a running knee for a near-fall. Hardy lands a back suplex, followed by a Whisper In The Wind for a near-fall. Jeff with the atomic drop and leg-drop to the groin for a two-count.
Jeff hits a mule kick, ducks a Brogue Kick, and connects with a slingblade. Hardy climbs up top but Sheamus hits him. Jeff fights Sheamus off but the Irishman hits the ropes to knock him down. Sheamus hits White Noise for a near-fall. Sheamus stomps Jeff and applies the Texas Cloverleaf but Hardy reaches the ropes.
Sheamus hits the ten beats of the Bodhran but then misses a tackle in the corner and hits the post. Hardy hits Twist of Fate, followed by a Swanton Bomb but Sheamus gets a foot on the bottom rope. Sheamus rolls outside and Hardy goes after, runs along the barricade and jumps right into a Brogue Kick. Sheamus puts Jeff back inside for another Brogue Kick and the pinfall.
WINNER: SHEAMUS
Kayla Braxton is backstage with Miz and Morrison and she informs them that if either of them pin Strowman tonight, they will become the sole Universal Champion. They play it off but Otis appears with Mandy and reminds them he can cash-in at any time.
RAW WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP

(C) ASUKA VS. NIA JAX
Asuka lands some strikes right away, including a headbutt, and gets Nia in an octopus stretch. Jax flings Asuka off, then hits a running lariat. Asuka tries to attack the left arm but Jax flattens her. Nia with a big biel, then another. Asuka jumps at her but gets slammed down.
Asuka jumps on Nia but gets lifted and hit with a jackhammer for a two-count. Asuka avoids a hip drop and hits a running knee. Asuka jumps onto Nia with a splash, then a few kicks. Nia catches a kick and hits a powerbomb for a near-fall. Asuka gets Nia wrapped around the rope with an armbar, then both tumble to the floor.
Asuka hits a running armbar but Jax fights up and slams her into the barricade. Jax lifts her but Asuka breaks free and kicks her. Asuka tries to get back into the ring but it’s too late.
DOUBLE COUNT-OUT
Asuka isn’t happy with the finish, so she hits Nia with a runing hip attack off the apron. Asuka takes her belt and leaves.
Lana approaches MVP backstage and says her Bobby has waited 13 years for this opportunity and he’s there because of her. MVP says he’s not the one who told her to stay away from ringside.
WWE UNIVERSAL CHAMPIONSHIP

2-ON-1 HANDICAP MATCH
(C) BRAUN STROWMAN VS. THE MIZ & JOHN MORRISON
The Miz starts the handicap match against Braun, but Morrison cheap shots Braun from behind, allowing Miz to attack him. Miz makes the tag and they hit a double dropkick. Morrison goes up top but Braun throws him off.
Miz tags back in but looks to tag out and John isn’t there. Braun boots Miz into the corner, knocking Morrison off the apron. Miz knocks Braun out of the ring, hits a dropkick through the ropes, then Morrison dives over the ropes onto the Champion.
Back inside, Miz and Morrison double-team Braun with a double-DDT. Miz lands the It Kicks until Braun slaps the chest, then hits an elbow. Braun hits the ring post and John tags in, drops him, and hits a running knee. Miz grabs Braun for the Skull Crushing Finale and Morrison hits a springboard kick into the move. Morrison covers but Miz breaks it up, then looks shocked at himself.
He pushes John back over Braun but the big man kicks out. Braun then slaps Miz, hits a powerbomb, and hits Morrison with a running powerslam to retain his title.
WINNER: BRAUN STROWMAN

Kayla Braxton interviews AJ Styles backstage. AJ says he could have taken the night off but he’s the greatest Champion in WWE history. So he wants a Championship presentation on Friday night, and Daniel Bryan is invited. Because he is one of the best to ever lace-up a pair of boots, but he’s just not phenomenal.
WWE CHAMPIONSHIP

(C) DREW MCINTYRE VS. BOBBY LASHLEY W/MVP
Before this match begins, Lashley grabs McIntyre with the Full Nelson and won’t let go. Referees run down and he eventually releases. McIntyre tells the referee he’s ready to go, so Lashley slams him into the corner and delivers shoulders.
Lashley continues the beatdown and rips Drew’s jacket off, but the Champion hits a fisherman suplex. Lashley goes back to the attack and chokes Drew in the corner. McIntyre counters Bobby and clotheslines him over the ropes. Drew rams Bobby into the plexi-glass, but Lashley scoops him up and drops him on his head by accident.
Lashley then lifts him and slams him into the ring post. Lashley runs at Drew but gets belly-tobelly suplexed into the barricade. McIntyre hits another suplex on the floor, then gets back in the ring. McIntyre hits a lariat and a big boot, followed by a spinebuster for a two-count.
Bobby hits a one-handed spinebuster but McIntyre kicks out at one! Lashley hits a flatliner for another one-count, then applies a crossface. McIntyre transitions into a Tombstone but Bobby grabs the ankle for an ankle lock. McIntyre reaches the rope, and Lashley looks for a Spear but gets caught in a kimura! Lashley reaches the ropes.
Drew takes Lashley up top and hits a superplex. McIntyre readiers for a Claymore but eats a Spear. Lana comes down to the ring and gets on the apron. McIntyre headbutts Lashley and he knocks her off the apron onto MVP. The distraction allows the Champion to hit a Claymore and stay Champion.
WINNER: DREW MCINTYRE

We cut to the parking lot where The Street Profits and The Viking Raiders are brawling. Erik is put through Braun Strowman’s windshield, so they all run in fear of the Universal Champion. The two teams continue their brawl backstage and both teams grab weapons, but agree to put them down. They fight into Gorilla and Ivar uses the bowling ball to crush Ford’s gonads.
Eventually Angelo Dawkins spears Ivar through a glass door. Ivar hallucinates eating turkey legs as they fight in the parking lot again. They then decide not to fight anymore, but all of a sudden a bunch of motorcycles pull up. It’s a bunch of ninja’s and one of them is Akira Tozawa. He says in Japanese, “Anything you can do, we can do better.”
The Viking Raiders and Street Profits huddle and come up with a plan to fight together. They morph into the Viking Profits and they all want the smoke. The Viking Profits work together to beat the ninjas. Ivar is body slammed onto one of the ninjas through a car windshield. All four men jump in the air and join fists while music plays.
Tozawa is still standing and begging for more ninjas, when a really tall ninja shows up. Ivar uses the Force to pull a turkey leg to him for strength. The ninja takes a sword out, and Ivar is scared.
 Erik wants to go after him, but they hold him back. They get on top of a WWE production truck to get away from the ninja. Ivar runs out of breath and has to catch up. All of a sudden, The Street Profits and Viking Raiders start brawling again. Dawkins bulldogs Erik off the truck. Ivar then knocks Ford off the truck. Air Ivar then hits a senton into the dumpster full of garbage. They’re all down in the garbage.
Ivar starts remembering all the women that have told him he’s cute through the weeks. Referee Jessika Carr comes up and says their match is next. Then she says Ivar is cute while Erik… not so much. They then realize there is something alive in the dumpster and scramble out as tentacles appear.
We’re back with the commentators and they say the match isn’t actually happening. The main event is next, and they say it will use production techniques to be an experience like no other. Edge and Orton make their entrances and an old-school MSG microphone comes down with a spotlight. Howard Finkel’s voice introduces both men in a beautiful touch.
EDGE VS. RANDY ORTON



The match begins and they lock-up, struggling for control. Orton slams Edge down face-first, and Edge shakes it off. Orton hits a shoulder, Edge with leap frogs and two arm-drags but Randy avoids a third. Edge gets a headlock takeover but Orton sends him out of the ring. Edge regroups before getting back inside.
Orton delivers a knee, then Irish whips Edge but he slides under the bottom rope. When Orton comes out Edge boots him down. Back in the ring, Orton hits a European uppercut. Edge slides under Orton twice andtakes another headlock takeover. Edge targets the shoulder that Orton injured in their match at Over The Limit in 2011.
Randy breaks free and just stomps the foot of Edge. The Rated R-Superstar uses the ropes to hit a headscissors and send Orton to the outside. Edge goes up top but Orton climbs up and tries to superplex him to the floor. Edge fights him off with a headbutt and hits a diving lariat on the apron. Orton is bust open and Edge slams his arm on the apron, then smiles.
Edge taunts Orton and hits a few kitchen sinks, followed by a Russian leg sweep into a crossface. Orton reaches the ropes, then immediately goes for an RKO but Edge avoids it. Edge applies the head and arm triangle but Orton escapes and hits a neckbreaker and Edge looks stunned. Edge rolls to the outside but Orton follows.
Orton slams Edge into the plexi-glass, the ring post, the barricade, and then the announce table. Edge rests against the steps and Orton slams his head repeatedly into them. Back to the announce table and Orton back suplexes Edge onto it, then whispers “I’m going to fuc$ing kill you.”
Back in the ring, Randy stomps all of Edge’s appendages before taking a headlock. Edge fights up but Orton shoves him into the buckles and Edge collapses. Orton looks up and smiles, then looks for the Three Amigoes but Edge blocks the third and hits his own Amigoes! Both men are down and start slapping each other. Edge puts Orton in the corner and hits repeated chops but Randy fires back with a dropkick.
Edge rolls to the outside and Randy pulls his arms through the ropes to yank him neck-first into the turnbuckle connector. Orton pulls Edge up to the top rope for a superplex and Edge is trembling, but still kicks out. Orton stalks Edge and hits another European uppercut, then a double crossbody takes both men down. They both makke it to their feet before ten.
Edge pulls a move out of Christian’s book and hits Orton with both feet in the corner. Edge goes up top and Randy grabs him for a draping DDT but the Hall of Famer counters with the Edgecution for a two-count. Edge hits a diving crossbody for a near-fall. Orton hits a roll-up but Edge counters into the crossface again. Orton escapes and hits an Angle Slam for a near-fall.
Orton whips Edge to the ropes and jumps for a dropkick but Edge catches him with a powerbomb for a near-fall! Orton dumps Edge over the ropes onto the floor and, as he tries to come back inside, Orton catches him with the draping DDT. Orton slithers around the ring and starts pounding the mat. Orton looks for the RKO but Edge counters with an Unprettier, which Randy avoids and attempts an RKO again but Egde hits the Edge-O-Matic for a near-fall!
Edge crawls to the corner and gets that look on his face. Edge runs for the Spear but Orton jumps over it. Edge dodges a powerslam and hits an Unprettier but Orton kicks out! Randy lifts and drops the ultimate opportunist on the top rope, then grabs him for a Pedigree but Edge kicks out! Edge then counters an Irish whip and hits a Rock Bottom for another near-fall!
Edge thinks about the Sharpshooter but Orton kicks him off. Edge attempts a backslide but Orton kicks out and hits another European uppercut. Edge hangs Orton on the top rope, then attempts a few roll ups until Randy hits an RKO…but Edge kicks out! Orton takes a few deep breaths, then lines up a Punt, but instead he eats a Spear! Edge rallies and hits a second Spear…but Orton kicks out!
Edge looks confused as to what to do next. He whips Orton to the corner but it’s reversed, Edge springboards back and gets caught with an RKO! Another kick-out! Randy grabs Edge by the head and trash talks him. Edge grabs him in the triangle choke but Orton low-blows Edge to get free, then quickly hits the Punt and scores the pinfall!
WINNER: RANDY ORTON



Orton slithers next to Edge after the match and tells him to go home. To go be a husband and father. Orton poses, the legend killer once more. Edge has barely moved. E.M.T’s arrive with a stretcher for Edge but he refuses it.
The greatest wrestling match ever? Probably not, but certainly a match of the year contender. Two masters of the game showing once again why story-telling and psychology is far greater than flips and dives. Let us know what you thought and come back tomorrow night for WWE RAW results.
