WWE Had Big Plans For AOP Before Their Release

WWE had recently released The Authors of Pain and that was a huge surprise for the fans. They were the former NXT and Raw Tag Team Champions and also joined the Seth Rollins faction when they had feud with Kevin Owens.
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio recently revealed the cancelled plans of AOP. Paul Heyman and Triple H had a plans to push Akam and Rezar but later Vince McMahon released them.
He said that they were not going to join the Seth Rollins which they were originally but Heyman wants them to make Road Warriors. Triple H even talked with Paul Ellering to mange them.

The only thing I had heard…because he had just gotten cleared and the idea was that he was not going to be back with Seth Rollins, which was their original role but they didn’t know where they would be.

When Paul Heyman was there, Paul Heyman wanted to make them his Road Warriors and Levesque did too because he even brought in Ellering for them and they were total Road Warrior rip-offs. It’s interesting that those two wanted to make them into Road Warriors and then Vince just decided whatever… [H/T: WrestlingNewsCo]

Paul Ellering also revealed in recent interview with Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling podcast that there were plans for him to return WWE to manage AOP this year but later they dropped it because of pandemic.
