Jim Ross Revealed That He Convinced Vince McMahon To Sign Randy Orton
The Viper Randy Orton has been with WWE for almost twenty years, he is the 14-time World Champion in WWE and a true veteran in wrestling industry. But Jim Ross revealed that Vince McMahon was hesitated to sign Randy Orton in 2000.
The former WWE Commentator Jim Ross worked closely to Vince McMahon and also Head of Talent Relations back then in WWE. He played a huge role in hiring talent in 1990s and 2000s including Randy Orton.
Before joining to WWE, Randy Orton was in Marines and received a bad conduct discharge after taking unauthorised work off on two different occasions. He also spent 38 days in a military prison.
On his Grilling JR podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross said that Vince McMahon was not full on hiring Randy Orton due to his past but at the end, Jim Ross convinced WWE Boss to give ‘this kid a second chance’.
“He [Randy Orton] was, believe it or not, he was somewhat of a controversial hire for us,” Ross said. “Vince was the problem child that went to military school and Randy was the problem child that went to the Marines and got discharged. Big time [Randy Orton’s past was a problem for Vince McMahon]. But, you know, it’s one of those deals where you say, look, I said, ‘Vince, you got a second chance, so why not this kid?’ He’s only a third-generation performer and both his father and his grandfather were outstanding in-ring guys.” (H/T: Sportskeeda Wrestling)
