WWE SmackDown Results (Jan 9th, 2020): Adam Pearce Set To Face Roman Reigns At Royal Rumble, Big E Successfully Defends His IC Title, Sonya Deville New GM
Tonight’s Friday Night Smackdown is live from WWE ThunderDome at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. WWE announced two title matches for the show. Big E will defend his Intercontinental Championship against Apollo Crews and Street Profits set to defend their tag team titles against Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode.

– Universal Champion Roman Reigns, Jey Uso and Paul Heyman opens the show. Roman Reigns talks about Kevin Owens, he says he likes and respect Owens for always showing up even when he is down and doing what he wants to do. He continued that he loves entire roster that’s what the leaders do and care about them.
Head of the Table stated that Kevin Owens can’t come to work anymore and calls out WWE Producer Adam Pearce, who made match between Kevin Owens and Jey Uso last that made Roman upset. Adam Pearce came out and asks what Roman Reigns want.
Tribal Cheif demands Adam Pearce to take responsibility for last week’s actions for providing match for Owens and now, Owens isn’t here and can’t feed his family. And now he books the Gauntlet Match, like Roman Reigns can’t pick his opponent. The five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce says that he is trying to best opponent for Roman but Roman mocks him for his decision.
Then, Roman asks former NWA Champion to put himself in the match but he says it’s conflict in interest. Roman says it looks like Adam thinks he is stupid but Adam he didn’t say like that. Then, Roman says if he thinks he’s stupid, then he’s insulting me, he doesn’t respect him or his family and if people around you doesn’t respect the there will be consequences. He grabs Adam Pearce and fixes his balzer and takes his leave.
WWE INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH : BIG E (C) VS. APOLLO CREWS
It’s a good match and happen twice. In first match, it was ended with double pin and Big E chats with referee while Crews is celebrating. Then referee annouces, the match was draw and Big E retains the Intercontinental Championship.
Then, Apollo Crews didn’t agree with referee and slaps Big E on face. Then, Big E calls for another match.
In Second Match, Big E defeated Apollo Crews via Pinfall and retains his Intercontinental Championship.
– Five-time NWA Champion Adam Pearce at backstage talking on phone and Sonya Deville shows up. Adam asks why she took up the job of assisting him, then, she says she wants to earse her past, which she isn’t proud of it. And she wants to learn and help Adam Pearce, especially, when he has match tonight. Then, Pearce says he hasn’t had any match from last six years and he won’t have it tonight.
– Bianca Belair at Backstage for an interview and declares that she is entering into Royal Rumble. Then, Bayley shows up and taunts EST of WWE Bianca Belair. Bayley also annouces that she is also entering into Women’s Royal Rumble Match.
– Carmella at backstage with her sommelier and cuts a promo about Sasha Banks.
WWE SMACKDOWN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH : DIRTY DAWGS (DOLPH ZIGGLER & ROBERT ROODE) vs. THE STREET PROFITS (C)
Dirty Dawgs (Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode) defeated The Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) via Pinfall and became the New Smackdown Tag Team Champions.
– WWE Producer Adam Pearce at backstage talking with Sonya Deville, Paul Heyman walks up and Deville left. Heyman says he had respect and admiration for teh legend ‘Scrap Daddy’ Adam Pearce. Paul Heyman says Roman asked him to pull the right strings and Adam Pearce is in the Gauntlet Match.
– The Riott Squad at backstage and Billie Kay came upto them, asks them to join her. But they rejects, Kay handed her resume to them and left.
#1 CONTENDERS GAUNTLET MATCH FOR UNIVERSAL TITLE
Rey Mysterio in the ring and Sami Zyan came out. Sami cuts a promo about his peace and rants that he still remains as champion of people. He then enters the ring and bells rings. Rey Mysterio hits 619 in quick fasion and hits frog splash for the win.
Rey Mysterio eliminated Sami Zyan via Pinfall.
Then, Shinsuke Nakamura came out as third member and continued the match with Rey Mysterio.
Shinsuke Nakamura eliminated Rey Mysterio via Submission.
Then, King Corbin came out as fourth participate and quickly attacks Shinsuke Nakamura for advantage and continued the match.
Shinsuke Nakamura eliminated King Corbin via Pinfall.
Then, Daniel Bryan came out as fifth participate and continued the match.
Shinsuke Nakamura eliminated Daniel Bryan via Pinfall.
After the match, Daniel Bryan shakes his hands with Nakamura. Then, Roman Reigns music hits and he came out along with Paul Heyman and Jey Uso. Now, five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce came out as final participate.
Before the bell rings, Jey Uso entered the ring and attacked Shinsuke Nakamura. Reigns also joined Jey and took out King of Strong Styles. Then, Roman calls Adam Pearce to the ring and Jey Uso kicks him into face. Then, they put five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion on Shinsuke Nakamura for the pin.
WWE Producer Adam Pearce eliminated Shinsuke Nakamura via Pinfall and earned the WWE Universal Title opportunity at Royal Rumble 2021 pay-per-view.
Roman Reigns and Jey Uso stands tall in the ring and Adam Pearce trying to recover. Roman held the title up and Smackdown goes off air.
