The former United States Champion Apollo Crews recently appeared as special guest on After The Bell podcast with Corey Graves and spoke about several topics. During the Crews spoke honestly about his current position in WWE, he said that he was too humble at the start and doesn’t question whether he belongs to here.
Crews said that he didn’t challenged company’s decision even he had different mindset about it. And he thinks that mistake just worked against him.
“Of course, I got here and I think I was too humble. I think my humbleness worked against me at times. I was too happy. I think I didn’t have the attitude of, ‘I belong here, I deserve to be here.’ You know what I mean? I wasn’t relentless in my pursuit to be the best Superstar I can be. I just took things as they came.
“I didn’t really challenge anything. I’m still kind of this way but I look at things with a different mindset. At the time, it was just like, ‘Whatever you guys need me to do, that’s what I’m gonna do.’ I think that kind of worked against me.”
During the interview, Apollo Crews also revealed that John Cena frequently asked him to explain about mindset behind his WWE character. But Crews said that he used to avoid John Cena backstage as he would ask the same question for which he didn’t have answer. Here what Apollo Crews said:
“When I first got to the main roster at the top John Cena was still working and he would always pull me aside and be like, ‘Who is Apollo Crews? We gotta figure this out. Who is Apollo Crews?’ At the time, I’m just like the most generic… it’s so embarrassing to even think about it. It’s like, ‘I’m this guy, I work hard, dah dah dah.’ He’s like, ‘Well, everybody works hard, but who are you?’”
“I couldn’t answer him to save my life. It literally took me six years, I’m trying to figure out who is Apollo Crews. I didn’t know. I felt so embarrassed, to the point where I’d avoid trying to have conversations with him because I’m like, ‘I know he’s gonna ask me again today and I don’t have an answer for him.’”
Apollo Crews recently turned heel by attacking Intercontinental Champion Big E on WWE SmackDown. He also debuted with his new heel persona on the blue brand and things look more interesting for him.
