WWE NXT Superstar Dakota Kai turned heel in NXT at NXT Takeover: WarGames in November 2019 by attacking her best friend Tegan Nox and left her injured. It was the first time Kai started working as heel and revealed that when she came to it was working for her.

While speaking to NewsHub, Dakota Kai discussed about her heel turn in WWE NXT and said that she realised her heel turn was working after her match against NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai at NXT Takeover: XXX
“I’m the sort of person who gets really nervous before a big match – I guess that’s what happens when you throw an introvert into an extraverted sport [laughs]. It wasn’t until after the match was done and we were both safe and okay and then stepping backstage to a round of applause and amazing support from everyone. It validated a lot of the things I have been trying to do as a heel character.”
Kai also said that it wasn’t first nature of her but after hearing the positive comments from NXT Boss Triple H and Shawn Michaels, she thought that she was on teh right direction.

“Being a heel wasn’t easy for me – it wasn’t first nature to me. But stepping back and hearing the comments of Hunter [Levesque] and Shawn [Michaels] and then what they said to me directly, it confirmed to me that this is the right direction for my character and I’m on the right trajectory.”

Later, Dakota Kai teamed up the Raquel Gonzalez in NXT and showed their dominance as Tag Team in women’s division of NXT. They also won the first-ever Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team tournament this year by defeating Ember Moon and Shotzi BlackHeart at NXT Takeover: Vengeance Day.
During the interview, she also spoke about her pairing up Raquel Gonzalez on NXT that had happened almost a year ago. Here what Kai said:
“The Dusty Cup final happened almost a year to the day that Raquel was paired with me. And throughout that year we have had each other’s backs and she has been there for me. She was a big part of the storyline when I went after Io [Shirai], we did War Games together and then I was there for her when she had the big match with Rhea Ripley. But this was the first time we went for something together and I think the result has solidified us as a team. We are super stoked with how it all turned out.”

After winning the Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament, they have got the WWE Women’s Tag Team title shot. This week on NXT, Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez will battle Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler with Women’s Tag Team Titles on line.
