On his latest Say Less With Kaz, Lowkey and Rosy podcast, The former WWE writer Kazeem Famuyide discussed about several topics including the nixed plans of Braun Strowman to win the Universal Championship at Crown Jewel in 2018.
At Crown Jewel 2018, Roman Reigns set to defend his Universal Championship against Braun Strowman and Brock Lesnar in Triple Threat Match but unfortunately, Reigns relinquished his title due to Leukemia.
Then, The Beast Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman collided in singles match for the vacant title which was won by Brock Lesnar. But WWE originally planned to put the title on Braun at WWE Crown Jewel in 2018, took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Kazeem Famuyide said that it was Braun to beat Brock at WWE Crown Jewel 2018 to win Universal Championship and they also wrote Monday Night Raw with Braun Strowman as Champion but last time plans have changed Brock won the title.
“There was one time where we all thought a match was going — this was — man, f*** it, I’m not working there anymore,” said Famuyide. “It was in Saudi [Crown Jewel 2018] and Braun [Strowman] was supposed to beat Brock [Lesnar]. This is right after Roman [Reigns] announced he had cancer, right?
“So, Brock and Braun were supposed to fight for the world title and we had a whole Monday Night RAW written with Braun Strowman as champion,” Famuyide added. “Then sike, Brock Lesnar wins and then as soon as Brock wins, we all had to go back into the office, rewrite the whole show and I just thought it was some s*** where it’s just like oh, they’re just kind of keeping us on the D.L. [down low], whatever but I didn’t know they could change like [that].” (H/T: POST Wrestling)
But fans were disappointed by WWE putting title on Brock Lesnar instead of Braun Strowman because latter needed it more. Finally, Braun Strowman won the Universal Championship by defeating Goldberg at WrestleMania 36.
