There were many rumors that 16-time World Champion John Cena might return back to WWE and challenge Tribal Chief Roman Reigns for Universal Championship at WWE Summer Slam 2021 pay-per-view on August 21st. Now, it seems like he might not be the part of WWE’s biggest event of summer.
Recently, Variety has reported that John Cena will be the part of director Matthew Vaughn’s new film, Argylle, which also stars Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Catherine O’Hara, Bryan Cranston, Sam Rockwell Samuel L. Jackson and pop singer Dua Lipa.

This film will be will be produced by Vaughn’s UK-based studio, MARV and shoot begins in Europe on August, which could possibly clash the John Cena’s appearance at WWE Summer Slam 2021, which schedule to take place at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on August 21st.
There is a possibility that The Leader of Cenation can join the shoot in Europe after wrestling Roman Reigns at Summer Slam pay-per-view but it may not be simple, based on the previous scenario with The Rock.

In 2013, The Rock wrestled John Cena at WrestleMania 29 but during this match The Rock tore his abdominal and adductor muscles and suffered a hernia. This resulted the shoot of his movie ‘Hercules’ pushed back to few weeks. Since then The Rock didn’t had a full length match in WWE due to insurance issues.
So, this concern could extend over to John Cena and his film Argylle. If John Cena might got injured during his match against Roman Reigns at Summer Slam could halt the shooting and insurance regarding it could be the major issue for the production company.
So, John Cena’s appearance at Summer Slam for a match against Roman Reigns potentially depend on risk of injury rather than scheduling conflicts, which can be managed. However, Cena’s status for WWE Summer Slam 2021 event hasn’t been ruled out yet but we have to wait and see.
