The reported reason for the Karrion Kross surprising loss was that Jeff Hardy is a former WWE Champion and it wasn’t supposed to be seen as much upset.
According to the Fightful Select reports, Karrion Kross was originally set to lose against Jeff Hardy for second week in a row but that was cancelled after Jeff Hardy testing postive for Covid-19.

Then, WWE changed the creative direction and Kross wrestled former NXT Champion Keith Lee and picked up the huge win against him. Fightful also noted that they didn’t told about any specific creative direction but several members of creative team told that Kross was booked to lose second time.
