Previously, Dave Meltzer reported that budget cuts were the reason for Bray Wyatt’s WWE Release. Later, Fightful Select confirmed the Dave Meltzer reports and also added that WWE’s Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis informed Bray Wyatt about his release via phone call.
Before informing Wyatt, Laurinaitis reportedly sent a notification to the WWE talent about this and they were shocked. Several people at backstage were left surprised after mentioning ‘budget cuts’ as reason for Bray Wyatt’s release as he’s seen as best merchandise seller when he was active on TV.
It was also noted that Bray Wyatt’s name also brought up during the recent set of releases. WWE also discussed about various superstars names and many of them were spared from the cuts.
This report also added that WWE creative team sent a message about Bray Wyatt that he getting overly protective about his character following a string of poor creative decisions. But members of the booking teams couldn’t confirm the details as they didn’t speak directly to Bray Wyatt.
PWInsider also reported that many people within the company were stunned as The Fiend t-shirts and action figures were the massive sellers for the WWE.
To say that the reaction within the company was stunned would be a massive understatement given how plugged into licensing the Wyatt character has been in recent years. The Fiend had been a massive hit for t-shirts and action figures.
