After Roman Reigns successfully Universal Title defense against Edge at Money In The Bank 2021 PPV, he declared that everyone can acknowledge him now. But John Cena made a surprise return and had a stare down with Roman Reigns. On following episode of Raw, John Cena announced that he came for Roman Reigns and challenged him for the Universal Championship.
On Smackdown, John Cena confronted Roman Reigns but Reigns denied Cena’s challenge and accepted Finn Balor’s challenge for title at Summer Slam. On following episode of Smackdown, during the contract signing between Roman Reigns and Finn Balor, Baron Corbin attacked Finn Balor but John Cena came out and attacked Corbin and signed the contract.
That made official that Roman Reigns will defend his Universal Championship against John Cena at Summer Slam 2021. On recent edition of Smackdown, John Cena and Roman Reigns had heated war of words, in which Reigns stated that if he can’t walk out as Universal Champion at Summer Slam, he would leave WWE.
Tonight at Summer Slam, Roman Reigns and John Cena had a intense battle. Both the superstars showed their dominance during the match. At one point everyone thought that John Cena would become the new champion but Roman Reigns didn’t gave up and kicked out for close calls.
At the end, Roman Reigns delivered a Spear and pinned John Cena to retain his Universal Championship. After the match, Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman celebrated in the ring but suddenly music hits and returning The Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar came out with huge pop.
Brock Lesnar was seen in new look with pony tail. He marched towards the ring and steps into it. He stared at Roman Reigns and went towards Paul Heyman, who was pleading Brock Lesnar. Then, He went face-to-face with Roman Reigns and Reigns left the ring with Paul Heyman. Brock Lesnar stood tall and laughs at Roman Reigns and Summer Slam went off air.
