WWE Superstar Jinder Mahal 170-day WWE Title run ended abruptly before the 2017 Survivor Series as AJ Styles defeated him to win WWE title on SmackDown. Then, AJ Styles went to face Brock Lesnar in Champion vs. Champion match at Survivor Series 2017.
On the recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer briefly discussed about the Jinder Mahal’s WWE Title run. He stated that AJ Styles replaced Jinder Mahal in Champion vs. Champion Match because Brock Lesnar didn’t want to work with him..
“You know why they did that? Because Brock did not want to work with him [Jinder Mahal],” revealed Dave Meltzer.

And for weeks before that, they had promoted Jinder Mahal Vs Brock Lesnar.
Like, a big part of me wants to know how WWE would have done that match at a time where they were booking Jinder strong! pic.twitter.com/g9hTZINJSo

Jinder Mahal dropping the WWE title was seen as not the correct time decision as the company was preparing for a tour in India tour at the end of that year. In India tour, Modern Day Maharaja Jinder Mahal lost to Triple H in India because WWE believed the Triple H was more over than Mahal.
“And then they go to India, and they have Triple H beat him. He loses in India to Triple H, and the big explanation is, well, Triple H is really over in India. It’s like, Triple H is 50 years old. My god!” Meltzer added. (H/T: Sportskeeda)
