Previously, these two superstars were scheduled to face eachother at WrestleMania 36, but Reigns backed out of the match due to concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.

If Roman Reigns take down WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg at Elimination Chamber, he will have successfully defended his title against every former Universal Champion in a single reign (Roman Reigns lost to Seth Rollins via DQ at Royal Rumble 2022, thus retaining his title).
