GUNTHER To Face Two Former WWE Champions At WrestleMania 39
Gunther, who recently made his main roster debut, has made an impressive impact by capturing the Intercontinental Championship. He has continued to dominate the competition, coming out on top against formidable opponents such as Braun Strowman, Rey Mysterio, Ricochet, and Shinsuke Nakamura. In the Men’s Royal Rumble match, Gunther displayed his incredible in-ring abilities by lasting over 70 minutes and being the last wrestler to be eliminated, despite starting the match at #1.
According to a recent report from WrestleVotes, the former NXT UK Champion GUNTHER may be facing Sheamus and Drew McIntyre at the upcoming Showcase of Immortals WrestleMania event this year.
I’m told while not decided 100%, there are plans to feature an Intercontinental Championship 3 way match at WrestleMania: Gunther v Sheamus v Drew McIntyre. There are a number of supporters within creative that not only want the match, but they want it towards the top. TBD.
WWE Reportedly Planning Another Unique Gimmick Match At WrestleMania 39
The recent WWE Royal Rumble event included a sponsored match between Bray Wyatt and LA Knight, known as the Mountain Dew Pitch Black match. Despite receiving a mixed response from fans and critics, this unique match has still managed to gather a strong following among the wrestling community.
WWE Senior VP and Head of Global Sales and Partnerships, Craig Stimmel, has announced that the company is planning to integrate sponsorships into WrestleMania 39 in a similar manner to how Mountain Dew Pitch Black was featured at the recent premium live event, Royal Rumble 2023.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Craig Stimmel revealed that this year’s Show of Shows WrestleMania would feature a sponsored match just like Royal Rumble.
“I don’t want to give away too much, but it’ll be around a match, and the sponsorship of that match, and what they’ll be able to bring to that match,” Stimmel said. “So we’re going to do things that fit inside of our storyline as well.” [H/T: Fightful]
Mountain Dew Pitch Black also sponsored the post-show press conference. The WWE senior VP and Head of Global Sales and Partnerships also stated that the same format would follow for this year’s WrestleMania.
“When you think about putting WrestleMania on, we’re going to be showing across millions of households on Peacock, we’re also going to have a social presence. We’re also going to have a post-match press conference that’s going to be sponsored this year — you saw that with Mountain Dew and Royal Rumble — but we’re going to have that again at WrestleMania […] I think when we approach brands, we want to make sure that that holistic picture is in place… we’re looking for that audience overlap,” added Stimmel.
