The tournament to crown the new World Heavyweight Champion is officially started on this week’s WWE Monday Raw. We saw Seth Rollins and Finn Balor win their respective Triple Threat matches, and Seth defeated Balor in the main event of the show to reach finals.
This tournament will continue on tomorrow’s Friday Night SmackDown, with two Triple Threat matches set to take place, the first featuring Edge, AJ Styles and Rey MysterioMysterio and second, Sheamus, Bobby Lashley and Austin Theory. The winners of both matches will face each other, with the final winner will face Seth Rollins at Night of Champions to crown the inaugural champion.
Ahead of the huge match, Edge took to Twitter to discuss the tournament, reflecting on giving up the World Heavyweight Championship 12 years ago, and how he ‘has to’ get it back. Edge reiterated that this ride will end soon, he has to end it right by winning back the title he never lost.
“It’s gonna end soon and there’s no better way to finish it than to win the World Heavyweight Championship and when I lose it, that’s it. I’m done.”
