After the break, Cody Rhodes stands in the ring staring up at the two WWE titles. He talks about how he is the first in and the last out and how much he is obsessed with moving past Kevin Owens at the Royal Rumble.
CM Punk’s music hits, and he comes down to the ring. CM Punk tells Cody that the title burns him out; it’s exactly what it did to him in his 444-day run for the title. He tells Cody that the title will burn friends, as it did with him, and warns him that Cody cannot be Superman.
Cody tells him he doesn’t have that many friends and asks if Punk is one. Punk responds, “Yes,” and tells Cody that he is here to be his friend and will always be there for him, out of respect for Cody’s father and because he cares about him. Punk acknowledges he feels as though he let Cody down but that no one, not even Cody’s father, could have prepared him for this.
Cody asks what is next, and Punk tells him that Cody’s next challenge is being in his hometown, sleeping in his bed. But Punk bets that Cody won’t sleep because he’s going to be thinking about the biggest match yet against Kevin Owens.
