Sam Billings, who is currently playing for Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), was recently asked to compare the PSL and IPL during a press conference. The England wicketkeeper-batter had a witty response for the reporter, saying, “You want me to say something silly?” before making it clear that he believes the IPL is the top T20 league in the world.
Billings said it’s hard to ignore the IPL’s dominance, calling it the “premier competition” globally. He added that other leagues, including those in England and Australia, are still trying to catch up.
“It’s hard to look past the IPL as the top competition. It’s very obvious,” he said. “Everyone else is just behind. In England, we’re trying with our league. PSL and Big Bash are doing the same.”

Billings went unsold in last year’s IPL mega-auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and has since been playing in the PSL, which is currently running alongside IPL 2025. The India vs Pakistan rivalry often fuels comparisons between the two leagues, but Billings made his stance pretty clear.
