In Match 29 of the IPL 2025, Mitchell Santner pulled off a crucial moment for Mumbai Indians, dismissing Karun Nair with a beauty of a delivery during their clash against Delhi Capitals on Sunday, April 13.
Karun, playing his first game of the season, was in red-hot form. He came in at No. 3 as an Impact Sub and looked unstoppable, smashing 89 runs off just 40 balls. He even brought up his half-century in just 22 balls before the powerplay ended. It was also his first IPL match in nearly 3 years (1077 days, to be exact), and he seemed hungry to make it count.
But then came Santner. The Kiwi spinner bowled a perfect length ball that landed on off stump and spun sharply away, completely beating Karun’s defense. It was a top-class delivery so good that even the usually calm Santner couldn’t hide his emotions. He shouted and kicked the ground, clearly fired up. Given how well Karun was playing, this was a massive wicket.
And Santner says, Karun Nair, who?

Seriously speaking, no lesser a delivery could have got him tonight.#DCvsMI pic.twitter.com/p2IliqPgVR
After Karun’s dismissal in the 12th over, Delhi completely lost momentum. What followed was a shocking collapse 7 wickets for just 58 runs. Mumbai Indians took full advantage and held their nerve to win the game by 12 runs in a tight finish.
Karn Sharma, coming in as MI’s Impact Player, played a key role too. His bowling figures of 3/36 earned him the Player of the Match award.
